Pontypool (2008)

Q: What do London Lite, Empire, Sky Movies and the late News of the World all have in common?

A: They all awarded Pontypool 4 stars.

Should they open the door? Pontypool, Shadow Shows Entertainment 2008

And there's more...

Sin City (2005)

Oh dear, I'm struggling to put my thoughts together about the film I just watched. It took a long time to get through it, and even now I'm not too sure what I just experienced or how I feel about it.

Jessica Alba in Sin City, Miramax 2005

I didn't specifically choose to buy this DVD. It came in a Quentin Tarantino bundle I bought a couple of years ago. Yeah, the same pack that lead to my recent Kill Bill reviews. Quentin's credited as being a guest director, but I really don't know how involved he was. Would I have watched this film if his name hadn't appeared on the cover? Not sure...

The Living Dead (2008)

You may have noticed that I haven't posted any book reviews for a while. Well it's all down to the current book that I've not been reading.

I'm sorry. I don't usually do this, but I'm giving up on The Living Dead.

Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004)

Pai Mai puts Uma Therman through her paces in Kill Bill Volume 2, Miramax 2004

He hates caucasians.
He despises Americans.
He has nothing but contempt for women.

If you loved the first installment of Kill Bill then I think that you're probably going to love the second. But it's not a sure thing! These are two very different films.

Skylark Ukulele

I picked up a new ukulele today... well new to me. I don't know too much about it other than it's Chinese and that it's had a hard life! You can see from the photos that it's got dinks and scratches all over it. It plays quite loud and has a good sound. I love it!

The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007)

Regular readers of this blog will remember when I waxed lyrical about The Hills Have Eyes a couple of months back. I'd been tricked into buying the remake, but actually I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it's a pretty good remake! That started my sub-passion for Mutants... something I'm still trying to work out of my system. Yes, I'm very easily led!

Mongo works at the Car Boot, 20th Century Fox 2007

Well what do you know... Wes Craven made a sequel to the remake; the aptly entitled: The Hills Have Eyes 2. I spied it at my local car boot. And would you believe it, I was served by one of the original cast members! Wow! What are the odds of that? If only I'd had my crossbow with me!

Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)

Copperhead: So, when do we do this?
Black Mamba: It all depends... when do you wanna die?
Talking snakes?

Of course not... Last night I watched part 1 of the Kill Bill duology. Or is it dilogy? I've got a feeling that both those words are made up. We can blame the Greeks for this... and the Americans...

Sheet Music - "I See Ice"

It's been a while since I stuck up any sheet music covers. Here are some that I've been meaning to post for some time.

George Formby - Mother What'll I Do Now?, A.T.P. 1938
George Formby - Mother What'll I Do Now?, A.T.P. 1938
Words & Music by Fred Cliffe & George Formby

Today's theme is George Formby, and more specifically the songs that appeared in the 1938 film I See Ice, released by Associated Talking Pictures. Surprisingly, I don't have a great deal of George's sheet music; These are the only three pieces that I've got... and they're all from the same film! What are the odds of that?

Siege of the Dead (2010)

Tonight I watched a German film by the name of Rammbock. I think that the literal translation is Battering Ram, which is by far a better name than Siege of the Dead. However, Siege of the Dead is the name on the DVD box. I think someone missed a trick there! I'll stick with Rammbock if you don't mind.

Basic Ukulele Chord Chart (GCEA)

I know, I know... I called this blog the Ukulele Blog and I rarely even mention the instrument...

Well today I'll rectify the situation by posting a chord chart. I created this about a year ago and it has been gathering dust ever since.

Tokyo Zombie (2008)

I can't remember the last time I sat down and read a comic. It was probably a copy of 2000AD sometime in the 80s. It's not something that I'm in the habit of doing. However, inspired by my recent viewing of Tokyo Zombie, I tracked down a copy of the original comic book. Things have changed a lot in comic-land over the last 30 years...
